Gys Kappers (Speaker Portrait 2)

Gys Kappers is the CEO of Africa’s first social business software and collaboration company, WyseTalk. Gys’ enterprising spirit was evident at a young age when in his 20’s he started an online and offline transaction platform company that was eventually sold to a larger technology business.  He shifted focus to the manufacturing industry and spent the next 18 years building, what became, the largest privately owned concrete masonry business in South Africa. In a multi-million rand buyout in 2008, Gys sold the company to a JSE listed group. Taking a break from commerce, Gys enrolled in an Executive MBA Program at the UCT GSB, which he completed in 2012; and his thesis on “the delay of social business software adoption in the enterprise and its effects” has gained him international recognition. It was during this period that Gys joined fellow entrepreneurs to commercially launch WyseTalk to the South African market. Using a social media format, WyseTalk enables companies to speed up the decision-making process, enable large-scale collaboration, improve all round communication and facilitate an open innovation environment to drive critical business success.
